That´s very difficult when you´r shooting on "wide" .A polarizing filter has nothing to do with sun glares and either a grey filter! The polarizing filter is above all an antireflex filter and the grey filter reduces the light
Hence if you're cleaning your GoPro, use water only. To test if your GoPro is indeed damaged from a manufacturing defect, there are plenty of tests as mentioned. Another one you can do is remove the battery, place some tissue paper inside, close the battery door, immerse in water for 30 seconds. Remove the camera, dry it off.
